Although there are many existing directories for US & European mobile & .mobi sites, much of the content is simply not useful to Australians. Most of us don't need an ATM finder for downtown Manhattan and we rarely have to make AmTrak reservations on the fly. I've listed a few good portals & directories that cover the best in mobile globally, but Mobilist is focussed on sites that are genuinely useful and relevant to someone living in or visiting Australia.
